Science

'I like making experiments. It was fun when I held the ice and it melted in our hands.'

‘I like how science challenges my brain and I like getting to know more about the world around us.’

‘I like finding out interesting facts, especially about animals because they are my favourite thing and I enjoy learning about them.’

‘It’s important to be curious; I want to know what is happening and why it happens.’

Pupil Voice

Intent

At St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Primary School, our Science curriculum develops children’s understanding of the world around them while nurturing curiosity and a sense of awe in God’s creation. We equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to think scientifically, ask questions and explore answers through enquiry. By building strong foundations in scientific knowledge and vocabulary, we inspire pupils to become confident investigators who understand the relevance of science in today’s world and for the future.

Implementation

Science is taught through carefully sequenced units that revisit and build upon prior learning. Working scientifically is embedded in every topic, with pupils developing skills in observing, questioning, predicting, investigating and analysing results. High-quality resources, practical investigations and meaningful cross-curricular links enrich learning. Subject-specific vocabulary is explicitly taught and reinforced, and ongoing assessment ensures pupils deepen their understanding and retain key knowledge.

Our Science curriculum is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and is designed to ensure all pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding outlined within it.
