Eco-Schools
At St Alban & St Stephen, we nurture environmental awareness and responsibility through our whole-school Eco programme. Rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, we encourage pupils to care for God’s creation and make sustainable choices in their daily lives. Our passionate pupil-led Eco Warrior team plays a central role, leading initiatives, raising awareness, and inspiring the whole school community to protect and respect the environment.
We are supported in our commitment to sustainability by Miss Sophia, our dedicated Environmental Tutor. Miss Sophia visits the school every fortnight to lead inspiring outdoor learning sessions, from British bird-watching to planting bulbs, giving pupils hands-on experiences with nature. She also runs family “green-fingered” volunteer days, bringing our community together to transform and care for our school grounds. Her passion for the environment sparks curiosity, teamwork, and a love of God’s creation in all who take part.

Walk to School
A massive well done to all our fantastic pupils, parents, and carers who took part in Walk to School Week! It was wonderful for so many members of our school community to choose to walk, wheel, scoot, cycle, or park and stride to school.
🌟 The Journey Continues: Earn Your Monthly Badges!
We are keeping the momentum going! We will continue to use our classroom Travel Trackers each week for the rest of the school year. By keeping up those healthy habits, children can earn a special collectible badge every single month!
How to earn a badge:
-
🗺️ Keep Travelling Actively: Walk, cycle, scoot, or Park and Stride to school regularly.
-
🏃♂️ Keep Up the Active Alternatives: For those who live too far away or have mobility restrictions, taking part in playground laps or active school activities such as litter picking, still counts towards your monthly badge!

💚 Thank You for Making a Difference
By choosing to leave the car behind or parking a bit further away, you are helping to keep the air around our school cleaner and our roads safer. Plus, our pupils are arriving in class refreshed and ready to learn.
Let’s keep those feet moving and see how many badges we can collect this year!

🚶♀️ Travelling to St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Primary School & Nursery 🚲
As a school, we are proud to be working on our Modeshift STARS travel plan. We are committed to promoting active, safe, and sustainable travel for every member of our school community.
How our children travel to school matters. It impacts their physical and mental health, their readiness to learn, the safety of our school gates, and the quality of the air we all breathe. Because of this, we have set out the following travel expectations for our school families:
Our School Travel Expectations:
- Choose Active Travel: Whenever possible, we encourage all pupils and staff to walk, scoot, or cycle to school. It is a fantastic way to build exercise into your daily routine! You can use our handy scooter and bike racks on each site.
- Leave the Car at Home for Short Trips: If you live close to the school, please avoid using the car. If you need to drive, consider "Park and Stride"—parking a short distance away and walking the rest of the journey.
- Be "Engine Off": If you must drive, please help us improve the air quality around our school by turning off your engine while waiting or parked. Idling produces unnecessary exhaust fumes that are harmful to children’s lungs. By switching your engine off, you are directly contributing to a healthier, cleaner environment for our entire school community.
- Keep Our School Gates Safe: Help us stay safe and reduce traffic congestion right outside the school during drop-off and pick-up times. If you need to use a car, always drive and park responsibly and considerately to keep our pedestrians and local residents safe. If you are on foot, use safe crossing points like our school crossing patrol, the footbridge and the zebra crossing.
- Care for Our Environment: By choosing sustainable travel, you are actively helping us reduce air pollution around the school and teaching our children valuable habits to protect the planet.
- Get Involved: Throughout the year, we run fun initiatives through our curriculum and assemblies, such as Walk to School Week. We hope that all families will join in and support these positive travel behaviours!
We are dedicated to working closely with our pupils, parents, and the local community to make our daily school run as safe, healthy, and green as possible. Thank you for your continued support!
