Pupil Leadership
At St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Primary School, our pupils have a vital role to play as leaders and role models in our school. We believe that giving our pupils responsibility as leaders empowers them, helps them to grow in confidence and enables them to discover and develop their own, unique God-given talents. Our pupil leaders are encouraged to be shining examples to the whole school community. They are empowered to become courageous advocates and to speak out about causes that they are passionate about.Pupil Chaplaincy Team
Our Year 5 and 6 Catholic Primary School Pupil Chaplaincy Team plays an important role in supporting the spiritual life of our school. They help to lead prayers in class and during assemblies, prepare liturgies and special celebrations, and encourage others to live out our Gospel values each day. The team supports charity events and fundraising, helping our school community to care for those in need. Through their leadership, they help create a welcoming, prayerful and faith-filled environment for everyone.
School Council
Our School Council, with representatives elected from Year 1 to Year 6, gives pupils a strong voice in our school community. Members meet regularly to share ideas, discuss ways to improve school life and represent the views of their classmates. They help to organise events, support fundraising projects and work closely with staff to make positive changes. Through their leadership, they learn about responsibility, teamwork and democracy, helping to make our school an even better place for everyone.
Eco Warriors
Our Pupil Eco Warriors are elected by their classmates from Years 1-6. They help to lead our school’s commitment to caring for our common home. They encourage everyone to look after the environment by promoting recycling, reducing waste and saving energy around school. The team helps to organise eco-projects and awareness days, sharing simple ways we can all make a difference. Through their work, they inspire our school community to act responsibly and take pride in protecting the world around us.
Sports Ambassadors
Our Pupil Sports Ambassadors play a key role in promoting an active and healthy lifestyle across our school. They encourage pupils to take part in sport and physical activity, help organise and lead games at lunchtime, and support school sports events and competitions. The team acts as positive role models, demonstrating teamwork, fairness and good sportsmanship. Through their enthusiasm and leadership, they help create a school culture where everyone feels motivated and confident to get involved in being active.
House Captains
Our Year 6 House Captains are proud leaders of our four school houses: St Bernadette, St Paul, St Peter and St Teresa. They encourage teamwork, school spirit and friendly competition across the year groups. The House Captains help to organise and promote house events, collect and celebrate house points, and motivate pupils to always try their best. Through their leadership, they model responsibility, fairness and pride in representing their house.
Squabble Squashers
Our Squabble Squashers are Year 5 and 6 pupils who act as trained peer mediators within our school. Having been trained by Herts Mediation, they help other pupils resolve minor disagreements calmly and fairly during break and lunchtime. They listen carefully to both sides, encourage respectful communication and support children in finding their own solutions. Through their work, they promote kindness, understanding and peaceful problem-solving across our school community.
Junior Librarians
Our Junior Librarian Pupil Leaders in Years 5 and 6 help to promote a love of reading throughout our school. They support the organisation of the library, help younger pupils choose books and ensure the space is tidy and welcoming. The team also assist with reading initiatives, encouraging everyone to enjoy books and develop their reading skills. Through their responsibility and enthusiasm, they help create a positive and inspiring reading culture across the school.
Pupil Class Leadership Roles
All pupils have the opportunity to take on Classroom Monitor and Prayer Leader roles within their class. Classroom Monitors help with everyday responsibilities such as organising resources, keeping the classroom tidy and supporting teachers and classmates. Prayer Leaders help to lead class prayers and pupil-led Celebrations of the Word, encouraging others to take part thoughtfully and respectfully. These roles give every child the chance to develop confidence, responsibility and leadership skills while contributing positively to their class community.
