PE and Sports Premium

Schools in England benefit from money provided through the P.E. and Sport Premium. The P.E. and Sport Premium is designed to help children get an active start in life, supporting primary schools to improve the quality of their P.E. and Sport provision so that pupils experience the benefits of regular exercise – from becoming healthier both physically and mentally to improved behaviour and better academic achievement.

At St Alban & St Stephen, we use our Sports Premium funding carefully to make sure it has a lasting and sustainable impact on pupils’ health, confidence and enjoyment of physical activity. Each year, we complete a Sports Premium Plan capturing our key achievements to date and identifying areas for future development linked to five key indicators:

  • Key indicator 1: The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
  • Key indicator 2: The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  • Key indicator 3: Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Key indicator 4: Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • Key indicator 5: Increased participation in competitive sport

Our main priorities in 2025-26 are:

  • Specialist sports coaching before and after school to give pupils more opportunities to take part in a wide range of sports.

  • Staff training (CPD) to improve the quality of PE teaching and ensure strong provision continues long term.

  • Sports mentoring for our most vulnerable pupils to build confidence, resilience and positive attitudes through physical activity.

  • High-quality equipment and resources to promote an active lifestyle across the school day.
