Hot weather, cool learning in Year 4
Despite the soaring temperature, and even though we’ve had to shorten our school days a little, our enthusiasm for learning hasn’t wavered in the slightest. In fact, it has been two weeks filled with curiosity, creativity and plenty of joy.
Following our Refugee Day, we moved straight into Refugee Week, followed by International Day. What a wonderfully busy time it has been. And what better way to deepen our understanding of the refugee experience than by stepping into the world of When Stars Are Scattered and journeying alongside Omar and Hassan. We imagined what life might feel like for a refugee, and many pupils produced thoughtful diary entries from Hassan’s perspective. It was a powerful and moving way to build empathy and understanding.
In Geography, we travelled somewhere entirely different: the Amazon Rainforest, amongst others. We’ve been learning why rainforests are so vital to our planet and exploring the extraordinary plants, animals and ecosystems that make them so unique.
Maths has been another triumph. We have now mastered both long and short division and are confidently converting units of time. A huge well done to everyone for persevering, even in the heat. An extra congratulations goes to all those who managed to GO GREEN and earn their certificates on TTRS. Your hard work and dedication have truly paid off.
Science brought a rather smelly but fascinating investigation as we soaked boiled eggs in different liquids to observe what might happen to our teeth when exposed to sugary drinks like cola or juice. The results were certainly eye‑opening.
In RE, we explored different liturgical practices in Catholic churches around the world. It was inspiring to see how faith is expressed in such beautiful and varied ways across different cultures.
Of course, PE and Music continue to be firm favourite. No surprises there. And in between all our learning, we’ve found inventive ways to stay cool - enjoying the comfort of a few air‑conditioned rooms, opening every window and door we could, and even running through the sprinklers when the heat became too much. Yes… teachers included. What fun!
Wishing you all a wonderful final few weeks of the school year. Stay cool, stay curious and keep shining.
