Intent

At St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Primary School, our Geography curriculum inspires pupils to see themselves as global citizens, fostering curiosity and wonder about the world around them. Children develop knowledge of diverse places, people, and resources while understanding the interconnectedness of human and physical processes and their role in caring for God’s creation. Local studies of St Albans, alongside the wider context of London and the world, help pupils appreciate their heritage and community. Through enquiry, research, fieldwork, and use of maps and digital tools, pupils build the skills to think, act, and communicate like geographers, developing respect for the environment, cultural understanding, and a sense of responsibility that prepares them for life beyond school.

Implementation

Our Geography curriculum is delivered through sequenced lessons and topics that progressively build and reinforce pupils’ geographical knowledge and skills. Each unit begins with a “big question,” encouraging children to investigate places, analyse data, and use age-appropriate geographical vocabulary and mapping techniques to form informed conclusions. Learning is enriched by first-hand experiences, both in the local community and beyond, enabling pupils to apply their skills across contexts and retain a deep understanding of the world around them.

Our Geography curriculum is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and is designed to ensure all pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding outlined within it.
