Welcome back and welcome to the third and final term of Year 2.
Despite it being a shorter school week, we have achieved a lot…
In maths we focused on learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables in random order, plus how to count in 3s. Being able to do so will help the children a great deal in being ready for Year 3 so it is a priority for us and all the extra work being done on TT Rockstars, Hit the Button and other maths games will make a fantastic positive difference. With this in mind, our chosen sponsored activity to raise funds for a school in Tanzania is to work on learning how to do the above. Two of our former staff members will oversee how these funds are spent so we know this tiny charity will get a big boost from the children’s work and the support of our community.
In English, we have just started to learn how to write a non-chronological report all about sharks so if you want to learn and bring in some facts about sharks, it would be brilliant and appreciated!
In geography, we be learning about our oceans – this provides for some good cross-curricular work with English as sharks live in every ocean.
We have spent a lot of time thinking about the amazing work that Pope Francis did. In particular, we have learnt about how he wanted to help the poor, our planet and include everyone.
In P.E., we have started learning how to play tennis. Those of you playing swing ball or practising throwing or bouncing a ball on a racquet have been excellent helpers, modelling what to do. The children are making quick progress when learning how to hit a ball so that it is kept under control.
Coming soon: Lots of work on multiplication and division. It’s great to practise with arrays as a way to help understand these answers. You might play shops, buying multiple of the same item.
In computing, we will be taking and editing digital photos so we will be taking some super snaps in the lovely sunshine and seeing what changes we can make to them to make them different.
We are working hard on making sure know how to spell all the words on the Year 1-2 spelling list. A quick Google search for: Year 1-2 spelling list will give you a copy of those your child needs to learn. We will also send home a copy.
Have a wonderful week.
Mr. Carr and Mrs Rindfleisch
