It’s been an action-packed week in Year Two, full of exciting activities and plenty of learning! The children have been busy rehearsing for our Nativity performance, which will take place at the end of this term.
In addition to the rehearsals, we had a fantastic workshop all about the Great Fire of London, a key event in British history. The aim of the workshop was to help the children understand what life was like in London in 1666 through interactive, hands-on activities and role-playing. The workshop, led by the team from Off the Page, was a real hit with the children!
The workshop started with a brief introduction to set the scene, and from there, the children were plunged into a world of historical characters. On Tuesday, they moved between different workstations around the hall, each representing a different role in London during the time of the fire. Some of the roles and activities included:
- Barber Surgeon
- Apothecary
- Leather Workers
- Chandlers (Candle Makers)
- Schoolhouse
- Perfumer
- Bakers
- Metal Workers
- Seamstress
- Weavers
The children had the chance to step into these historical roles, learning about the jobs people did during the 1600s, all while having fun in a very hands-on way!
But that’s not all—between all this learning and fun, we’ve had some very creative work from home, including fantastic puppet creations. The children’s creativity has been truly impressive, and it’s wonderful to see their enthusiasm and talent shine through.
And to top off this busy and exciting week, one lucky young man in Year Two received a special letter from Buckingham Palace! What a wonderful surprise and a memorable moment for him and the whole class.
All in all, it’s been another happy and productive week at school, and we can’t wait to see what next week has in store!
