This week, Year 5 investigated which materials would dissolve in water.
We used transparent plastic cups of water filled with some white sugar, some sand and a few other materials. We established that in order for these materials to create a solution, we would need to stir them.
The children noticed that the sugar had ‘disappeared’ into the water. This meant that the sugar had dissolved and formed a solution. The sand, on the other hand, would not disappear and simply clumped together.
The children then had a chance to try this with instant coffee granules, tealeaves and peppercorn with varying results.
Elsewhere in Year 5 this week, we were learning to convert between different metric measures in Maths, we started to explore the Mauri haka in PE and we familiarised ourselves with the where the Vikings lie on our timeline of British History.
