Today, Friday 4th October, Year 4 visited Verulamium museum and amphitheatre. In the museum, the children were lucky enough to handle genuine Roman artefacts and learn about how daily life had changed in Britain when the Romans came. From tweezers, oil lamps and frying pans to ordinary household bricks, we learnt about everyday objects and what life was like in Roman Britain, compared to Celtic times. The children then toured the museum to view the thousands of fascinating objects found on archaeological digs in the area. Once we left the museum we went to visit the Roman mosaic and hypocaust in Verulamium Park, before heading to the Roman Theatre to see where the Roman residents of Verulamium went for their entertainment. The trip boosted the children’s knowledge about Roman Britain and at the same time provided an enjoyable day out.
