Year 1 have had another enjoyable week, learning and exploring.
The children have been using adjectives to describe the Tiger Who Came to Tea and have also been sequencing the story. In Maths, they have been revisiting ‘positional language’ and ordinal numbers. They have also been using the iPads and the Scratch computer programme to draw. In Geography, we have started to look at Our Local Area and can locate St. Albans and Hertfordshire on a map of England. In Science we have started to look at the human body and can name many parts – this involved using a ruler to draw lines, a very tricky skill to master! In RE we have started our unit on Families and the children have had fun drawing and talking about their own families. We have also enjoyed a music lesson and two PE sessions. During our Dance lesson we listened and interpreted the music of The Flight of the Bumblebee, by Rimsky Korsakov. The children have also continued to enjoy exploring the classroom resources and role-play during child-initiated learning and their new playgrounds.
We enjoyed our first Gospel Assembly on Monday and discussed the School Rules and School Values. Please do keep reinforcing these with your child as they are the backbone to our Catholic Social Teaching and ensure that every child receives the education that they deserve. Ms Hackett commented on how well the Year 1 children walked into the hall for our assembly and they sat beautifully.
Please do look for your child’s log-in for Google Classroom – Elm Class have them in their red Communication Books and Oak Class have stuck them inside their orange Reading Record Books. This is where you can access the Homework grid and upload your child’s homework, as well as seeing important messages. If you have any problems logging onto Google Classroom, please email:

We wish you all a restful weekend and we look forward to another fun-filled week next week.
