Year 1 have had a spectacular Science week!!!
On Monday we enjoyed an introductory assembly, which introduced all the topics that would be covered during the week.
In Year 1, we also learnt about a famous Scientist, Neil de Grass Tyson, who was actually an astrophysicist. The children were so inspired by his passion for astrology, even at a young age. He took dogs for walks at the age of 14 years to buy his first telescope! We made posters to teach others about his amazing achievements.
On Tuesday, we enjoyed petting, stroking and holding a menagerie of wild animals and learning so many facts from the animal keeper.
On Wednesday, we sorted animals by their structure and used descriptive language to describe them.
On Thursday, Mr. Issacs (our site manager) taught us all about injection moulding, used to make plastic products. He even made a prototype model to demonstrate the process. The children will now be able to identify any plastic item in your home that is made by injection moulding! Just ask them what they learnt!
On Friday, Mr. Abu Sayf (Shaam’s Dad) came into Year 1 to teach the children about structural engineering.
Next week, we shall be continuing with our non-fiction text learning in English; using money in Maths; identifying and naming a variety of animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores in Science; learning about modern hospitals in History and continuing with our Lenten season in RE.
We wish all our families a very happy and relaxing weekend.
