Another busy week in Year 1.
In English, we have been using adjectives in our writing to describe the settings of different houses from the story Here comes Mr. Postmouse.
In Maths we have been using a cherry-model frame to support the children with creating number sentences. They use the support to recognise that the two parts make a whole, as in addition and that if one takes a part from the whole, they will create a subtraction sentence. This has been reinforced with lots of visuals and objects to count.
The children really enjoyed our Science lesson, in which they had to taste four different foods and then describe them. Do ask your child which one was their favourite!
In PSHE we have been reflecting on our unit this half term – Being Me. We all signed up to the Jigsaw Charter which is basically a set of rules that we should all follow to ensure that everyone is happy and can learn.
In R.E. the children have started a new unit, entitled Belonging. We have reflected on how we belong to a family, our class and our faith. The children learnt about the sacrament of Baptism and reenacted the ceremony.
Year 1 will be going to Clarence Park on Monday 16th October. Parent volunteers have been notified.
Please be advised that the children’s PE lesson and Music lesson with our specialists has been moved to Wednesday afternoons. Please send your child into school in their usual school uniform everyday now and send them in with their PE kits on Wednesday mornings. We shall get them changed at lunchtime and they will go home in their PE kits on Wednesday.
Do also remember that school closes on Thursday 19th October at 1pm for the Parent Consultations to take place.
We wish you all a restful weekend and we look forward to our last week of Autumn 1 next week.
