Following on from our fabulous Nativity last week, we have been thinking deeper about the Christmas Story. The children have created their own Nativity scene and included the key characters from the story.
This half term we have been developing our English writing skills looking at writing in the first person and writing for a purpose, in this case our very important letters to Santa. We have a lot of amazing children in year 1, i’m sure all of them are on Santa’s nice list.
In Maths, the children have been exploring their understanding of 2D and 3D shapes and putting it into practise. For 2D shapes, the children have created a lovely piece of Christmas artwork and have labelled which shapes they have used. For 3D shapes, we had a shape hunt and each matched the shape to the correct name.
This week, the weather has been very exciting, as the snow has shown us what Winter looks like! The children have been learning about the signs of Winter and what changes occur during this time of the year. The children drew a picture and wrote some sentences about what you see and what happens during Winter.
On Thursday, we were treated by a surprise author, Charlotte Sebag-Montefiore. She came and read her story, Herbie And The T.Rex, and also shared some fascinating facts about dinosaurs, as well as answered the children’s questions. Charlotte very kindly signed some books for the children as well.
