This week across the school, children have been celebrating Mental Health and Wellbeing week. This week has been an opportunity for the children to take a step back and think about how they can look after their own mental health. We have done yoga, sewing, mindfulness colouring and so much more. Here are some of the exciting things we have done in our last week of Spring 1:
Safer Internet Day 2023:
On Tuesday 7th February, it was Safer Internet Day. This day is all about spreading awareness to children about how to stay safe online. The Year 1 children listened to the story Smartie The Penguin, who minds his own business on his brand new iPad, before being interrupted by a dangerous pop-up. The children created a poster to help Smartie spread awareness of his favourite song ‘Before You Tap and Click….You Need To Stop And Think… And Tell Someone’. Here are some excellent examples –
Mad Science and Yoga:
This week the children were fortunate to have a couple of special visitors. First, the children had a Mad Science assembly, which introduced them to lots of different chemical reactions and reminded them that always learning is amazing for our mental health. There was even FIRE! Later in the week, the children winded down with some Yoga delivered by an excellent and calm instructor.
Making Lists:
In English, we have been working as a team to create a list. First, we conducted our own research, using a range of books and the iPads. Next, we wrote the ideas we had found on a big piece of paper. Next, we worked together to create a list, ensuring everyone had a turn and that we all helped each other. After that, we presented our beautiful lists to the class, the improve our speaking and listening skills.
Sewing Keyrings:
In Art and DT, we have been learning a new skill, SEWING! Last week we made a plan and design of what materials we were going to use. This week, we have been threading the needle and sewing our keyring together. There was some incredible team work to help everyone achieve their goal.
We hope you have a lovely half term break and we can’t wait to see you in Spring 2.
