We are having a brilliant week in year 1 so far. In maths this week we are learning to tell the time. We made our own clocks and have been thinking about what each of the hands on a clock mean. We have been learning about clockwise and anti-clockwise and practising telling the time to the hour and half past.
In english we have been writing our own free verse poems based on squirrels. We have been thinking really carefully about good word choices. We are now practising learning our poems off by heart ready to perform them to the class! We have been thinking about what makes a good performance – using our voices and adding in actions with our bodies. We have been really impressed with the children’s enthusiasm for poetry, some of the children have learnt different poems off by heart at home and have been performing them to the class.
We had such a fun sunny green day today. We had a fantastic morning with Mrs Flatt singing campfire songs together and we loved playing games with the parachute with Ms Bowen.
We have been busy weeding our outside area and tidying it up! We spotted lots of minibeasts along the way. We were then able to plant out some of our new plants. The children really enjoyed weeding, with one child commenting ‘I thought this was going to be boring but I LOVE it!’ They worked as a team to clear a whole path of weeds! In the afternoon we started weaving our seasons wheels, using different colours for each season. We will now finish these in our forest school sessions over the coming weeks. We also took a visit to the pond for some pond dipping – we were all amazed at the dragon flies and they loved landing on our colourful hats and clothes!
