This week, we welcomed the children back from their Easter holidays, to our new topic ‘Down In The Garden’. Throughout Summer 1, the children will be learning all about growing plants, minibeasts, lifecycles and much more. Early on in the week, the children were very curious to learn about ‘The Creation Story’, asking lots of questions about how our Earth was created. The children worked collaboratively to create a collage to represent what God created on each day, which has made a beautiful display.
Additionally, to dive straight into our new topic, we decided to grow our very own cress in the classroom. After learning about what seeds need in order to grow, we put our knowledge to the test by sprinkling cress into cotton wool and experimenting with 4 different environments for it to grow in (1. No water, no light / 2. No water, light / 3. Water + Light / 4. Water, no light). The children made their own predictions about which pot of cress would grow the most successfully and over the week they observed the changes. Next week, after observing the changes, we will be able to reflect and draw conclusions on which environment was most effective.
