We are so delighted to have welcomed the children back to school this week, they all came in with some fantastic stories of their Christmas break. In Spring 1, we are very excited to be moving onto our new topic, ‘Once Upon A Time’. In this topic, the children will be diving into a range of traditional tales, as well as more modern fairytales. We will be learning about characters, settings and different typical story features.
The first story we have been learning about this week is ‘Goldilocks and The Three Bears’. After reading the stories, the children had fun re-enacting the story. They used their voices very confidently to imitate the characters!! Some children also decided to extend their love of the story into their CIL, by painting characters and drawing/writing parts of the story.
Also this week, we have been learning about Epiphany. The children were able to recap key parts of the Christmas story, where the kings visited the baby Jesus and brought him gifts. We explored and discussed key words, such as ‘Wise Men’, ‘Gifts’, ‘Star’. Each child created their own art piece to signify the theme. The children used their whole hand, as well as individual fingers and thumbs to create a picture of the wise men travelling on their camels.
