It was so lovely to welcome back the children to their brand new Year 1 classes. The children have settled back into the routines very quickly and have adapted to the new expectations of Year 1. We began the week by reminding ourselves of our school prayer and golden rules. Together, we created actions that represented how we interpret different parts of the prayer. We also looked at the school values and came up with some creative actions to demonstrate these as well.
At the beginning of the week, we also shared all the lovely things we got up to over the summer holidays. It was so exciting to hear how much fun all the children had.
We had plenty of time to explore our new environment and all the children were excited to explore the new outdoor area! The children have been challenging themselves with the new climbing equipment.
Towards the end of the week, Year 1 had to make a very important challenge! This year, the children have the opportunity to take part in the school council. We learnt what the responsibility of this would entail and Miss Cotterell and Mr Miller were so pleased to see a total of 30 children in Year 1 wanting to take part. To make the decision fair, we decided to host a polling day, in which the children would get to choose one candidate from each class. We had such lovely reasons for wanting to be on the school council, such as “wanting to help my friends”, “wanting more flowers for the bees” and, of course, more TOYS!
After a very close decision, the children of Class 1C and 1M have elected Alice and Conall as their School Council Representatives! We know they will do an amazing job.
Finally, on Friday morning, we began the day by taking some time to remember Queen Elizabeth II, who sadly passed away this week. Mrs Moore led an assembly in the morning, which spoke about the life of The Queen, which was followed by a minute silence. During CIL, the Year 1 children decided to do some mindfulness colouring and create their own Crown Jewels.
We can’t wait to see you all on Monday for another exciting week!!
