The children are fully settled into Reception now and are really amazing us with their hard work and attention during carpet times and during CIL. To begin our week, we introduced our new topic ‘Baptism’ in RE. For our first lesson we discussed the different things you may find at a Baptism and shared our existing knowledge of Baptism, which was very impressive. Following the lesson, some children were very keen to extend this learning into their play. Some children were re-enacting a Baptism, using a baby doll, white garment, bowl of water and a Baptismal candle. Other children decided to do lovely drawings, which represented their own experiences of Baptism.
Continuing our theme in Maths, the children having been doing some fantastic subitising, counting and matching. This weeks focus has been matching quantities to the roll of a dice and comparing quantities, focusing on the language of ‘more’ and ‘less’.
In reception, we place a huge importance on independence, physical development and self-care. The children have demonstrated this at lunch time, by using a knife and fork to cut and spread their own food.
In the middle of the week, the reception children were surprised with a visit from the award winning poet Kate Wakeling. She came in and treated the children to 3 of her fantastic poems, which the children had fun getting involved with!
Below are some pictures from the amazing learning the children have been doing this week throughout indoor and outdoor CIL!
