In Year 3 we have been learning this week about Saxon England and the Viking invasions. Did you know that there was a Viking attack on the monastery and town of St Albans in 874AD? We learnt that St Albans was part of the kingdom of Mercia, and how the Vikings were eventually pushed back into the Danelaw by King Alfred.
To help us get a better idea of the Viking attack we played a game of tag, where the teams were Vikings and Saxons. The Vikings “sailed their boat” towards the Saxon town of St Albans, and then attacked! Everyone had a great time bringing history to life.
