For Science week, we have been delighted to welcome Mr Pratt from the Red Bull Formula 1 racing team. He explained some of what goes into making the team successful, including the materials used and the high precision engineering required from designing and making a single bolt to the specially moulded driver’s seat. We had an exciting hands on session exploring various parts from an F1 car and understanding why some parts, such as the accelerator pedal were so stiff compared to normal cars to compensate for the forces exerted and the constant vibration caused by travelling 30mm off the track at high speeds. Thank you so much for a great presentation, Mr Pratt.
We also conducted an investigation to test our reaction times by dropping a ruler and measuring the distance when we caught it. We discussed what factors could affect reaction times and discovered that we had much better reaction times than our teachers.
