Last Thursday our school was transformed into a wonderful world of fairy tales and magic! Everyone – even the staff – came dressed as characters from story books. Across the nation – and even in other countries – we were celebrating our love of books and reading. This year, at St Albans and St Stephens we focused on fiction, and story tales in particular. This tied in with our book that we, as a whole school community, have been working on – “Instructions” by Neil Gaiman. Every class and every year group has read the poem and then discussed what the instructions were all about. The children have then been creating a set of instructions of their own, based on a variety of fairy tales. I have been delighted to read how to fight dragons, conquer trolls, ignore wolves and more! Take a look at 3T’s work in a couple of the pictures below to get a taste.
Class 5A enjoyed the poem so much that they learnt it by heart and put actions to the words. They turned this into a fantastic performance that kicked off our World Book Day assembly on the upper site. On the lower site, parents and guardians came in, at the end of the day, to share stories together as part of Family Reading Time. This was a huge success and much enjoyed by all. Thank you to all the families who joined us and for making the day so special.
Events like these are so special in our school as they show what a warm and caring school community we have. Thank you to all the parents and carers for putting the effort into outfits – and more – for the children.
