Year 4 have been learning how to sew using binca material this week. They learned and practised a variety of stitches, including running stitch, back stitch, half cross stitch and cross stitch. They even learned how to thread a needle without licking the cotton.
Linked to our learning about the Battle of Hastings and the Bayeux Tapestry, the children drew simple designs of shields, emulating those used in 1066, then created their designs using stitches of their choice. As we were celebrating World Book day this week, some children even challenged themselves to independently create bookmarks sampling a variety of stitches and designs.
We would like to thank our generous parent volunteers who gave up their time to support the children to learn and develop their skills, as well as undoing the odd knot.
