The theme of Refugee Week this year is ‘Home’. Malala Yousafzai said:
“To me, a home is where you feel loved, safe, and cherished.”
We have been learning about and praying for refugees as part of National Refugee Week, that they all find a home where they feel loved and safe.
All classes have studied an age-appropriate book raising awareness of refugees, such as ‘The Suitcase’ in Year 1, ‘The Journey’ in Year 3, ‘When Stars are Scattered’ in Year 4 and ‘A Story Like the Wind’ in Year 6.
In our Key Stage assemblies, we imagined what it might be like to have to pack up all of our possessions into one bag and leave home very suddenly. Key Stage 2 have also attended virtual assemblies about refugees run by The Sanctuary Foundation and an assembly introduced by Michael Rosen.
Finally, our Prayer Leaders have been leading lunchtime activities for Refugee Week in the upper site Prayer Garden. Our long chain of prayers that we have written for refugees has grown every day.
