Year 3 have got off to a flying start in the new year. We have started our new topic in history – an overview of British history, which will give us a good sense of chronology as well as using lots of historical skills. Last week we put together a timeline and this week we looked at the impact the Romans had on St Albans. We were very impressed with the children’s knowledge and enthusiasm. So much enthusiasm in fact, that at break time a whole “Roman Legion” formed and marched up and down!
In science, we have continued with our work on light and shadow. We tested a variety of materials to see which one would cast the best shadow and so create a perfect shadow puppet. We made predictions, recorded the results and then wrote up our experiment in full.
In maths we continue to work on geometry with a focus this week on polygons. We thought about their properties, about congruency and similarity, and finished the week by accurately drawing our own. We all particularly enjoyed working with the tangrams. Well done, children!
