The children have done an amazing job this week coming in with bigger smiley faces than the week before!! We feel well and truly settled in now.
This week, we have started our Little Wandle journey in Phonics by learning the sound s, a, t, p. We have been able to identify the grapheme and recognise the initial sounds in lots of different objects. We have been practising writing these letters using different forms of media.
In Maths, we have learnt a big new word called ‘subitising’, which means recognising an amount without having to count each one. We have been subitising lots of different things, such as objects, dice, numicon and dominoes. We are getting very confident in recognising amounts up to 6 now without needing to count each one.
Our Topic this half term is ‘Ourselves’. As part of this, we have been thinking about our unique bodies and the parts that make each and every one of us. We did an activity where we labelled the body parts of a very kind volunteer. Next week, when we start our focus story ‘Here We Are’, we will also learn about our internal parts, such as our heart, lungs and bones.
