On Thursday, we had a blast celebrating Number Day! Our Maths lesson was inspired by the book “How Many Jelly Beans?” by Andrea Menotti. We worked with a partner to count a bunch of colourful jelly beans in an envelope and wrote down each colour as a fraction. To make things even more exciting, we compared and arranged these fractions from smallest to largest, reinforcing our understanding of fractions. Finally, we created a bar chart illustrating our jelly bean findings!
We also made our own maths board games and went on a jelly bean number hunt around the school grounds. Later we played number games outside in the playground where we did a number of numeracy related activities such as counting the number of hula hoops we could do, or counting how many times we could catch a tennis ball. It was great fun!
