Year 3 are using a piece of music by composer John Adams called ‘A short ride in a fast machine’ to inspire their music. They have been listening to the music and thinking about how it makes them feel, what they can hear and what they think the piece is about. We have been learning about ostinatos, so they have composed their own and incorporated it into their versions of the piece using percussion instruments. Our next step is to add some tuned instruments and collate all of their wonderful ideas to create a whole class composition based on the piece.
