This week, we celebrated Refugee Week by joining an online workshop created by the Literacy Trust. We listened to the book “Adnan”, read out by its authors Mark Arrigo and Steven Chatterton. We thought about what home means to us and what items we would pack if we had to leave home suddenly. We also discussed how we would welcome refugees if they came to our school.
It was interesting to compare “Adnan” to our class book “The Journey” by Francesca Sanna, which tells the story of a family escaping war to find safety. In class, we acted out scenes from the story to understand how the characters felt during their perilous journey.
