It has been an amazing two weeks in Reception. The children have truly settled and are learning lots and lots of new things. In RE, we have been learning about God knows each person’s name and loves each on of us. We took it in turns to pass a mirror around and appreciate ourselves.
In our Bible Stories lesson, we have been starting with the Creation Story. Last week we focused on the creation of light, and explored light with torches. This week, we focused on the creation of animals on our Earth. During CIL, we chose whether we wanted to make a fish or a bird to represent God’s creations.
In Maths, we have been learning all about counting using 1:1 correspondence, as well as subitising and counting objects that are moving.
Our focus stories have been ‘Here We Are’ and ‘Once There Were Giants’. We have been thinking lots about ourselves and how we have changed over the years. We learnt about our internal organs and what function they play. We also shared pictures of ourselves when we were babies and had a discussion about what is different now compared to then.
We have also noticed that the children are doing an amazing job with their phonics learning. They are learning their new sounds so quickly and are becoming more confident in applying this to their blending to read. Over the past two weeks we have learnt g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r. See if your children remember what a digraph is!
