During Advent, we have reflected on how we can support the poor and vulnerable in our community.
This fitted into our Catholic Social Teaching theme – Option for the Poor.
We thought about how we could support people who were not as fortunate as ourselves.
It also made us think carefully about how Jesus entered the World, in a humble stable in a far away land to His home and that His parents had to flee to another country to be safe. The children were able to reflect on this important story through their writing in class. Many thought they would sort out old, unwanted toys or clothes from home and give them to charity or hold a cake-sale to raise money. One child in Oak class went home and actually made an Advent Calendar for a child that had none. He brought it into school to show it to the children and we were so impressed that we asked Ms. Hackett, our Head of School to take a look.
Ms. Hackett was overwhelmed with his generosity!
This is truly living out our Catholic Social Teaching.
