It was lovely to welcome the children back to school this week from half term. This half term we are exploring our new topic of ‘Let’s Celebrate’, looking at a diverse range of celebrations and festivals that take place over the next 8 weeks. In this topic, children will also be exploring day and night, light and dark, nocturnal animals and much much more!
To kickstart the week, we did lots of activities all about Halloween and Bonfire Night. The children got very crafty! We thought of words to describe the fireworks.
In Maths, we have moved on to comparisons and have been focusing on weight, length and size. We have been learning terms such as heavier, lighter, thicker, thinner. We also put objects in order from smallest to biggest. During CIL, the children loved experimenting with different objects, comparing which are heavier and lighter using the scales. Some children even turned themselves into human scales. We learnt that some objects can be deceiving, as bigger objects can be heavier than smaller objects.
In our Catholic Social Teaching lesson, we learnt about Care For Creation – which helped us to recap on what we already learnt from our Bible Stories lesson all about the story of Creation. We shared our ideas on how to protect our Earth and the things that inhabit it. We painted our feet and made a footprint, as a symbol that we will leave a good footprint on this wonderful world.
