Key Stage 2 pupils led a beautiful Advent carol service at Ss Alban & Stephen Church. As the figures from the Nativity were carried up to the stable scene at the front, the children read the story of the Nativity, beginning with a reading from Isaiah prophesying the coming of the Prince of Peace many years before Jesus was born, and ending with the poem, ‘The Three Kings’ by Longfellow. Fr Michael told us in his homily that this Christmas, we need to be ‘builders of peace, and builders of love’. This was an inspirational message for everyone in church to take out into the world with them.
Music plays a key part in our worship at SSAS, and this service was no exception. The ukelele band played along as we sang the carol, ‘See him lying in a bed of straw.’ Mrs Flatt, our Music teacher, led the choir in a lively version of ‘Midnight’. We also sang ‘Silent Night’ in French and a range of other Christmas carols, both traditional and modern. Finally, the whole congregation joined in with a stirring rendition of ‘Joy to the World’.
This Christmas, we wish you and all of your families peace, love and every blessing as we celebrate the history-changing birth of Jesus Christ.
