Over the past few weeks, Year 6 have been exploring the history and art of the Benin Empire. The children thought carefully about what the remains of buildings, the art and the eye witness accounts can tell us about the era; whether we should trust these sources or not! Then, taking the wonderful art as inspiration, the children have designed their own animal masks. We are hoping that the finished products will be a blend of West African inspiration and a reflection of their own unique personalities!
You can see from the photos that this is a work in progress right now!
