We had great fun today making sunflowers and other flower designs in a joint art/science lesson. Our new science topic focuses on plants and we thought it would be a nice idea to make some sunflowers to help us learn about plant anatomy. In our science lessons have started learning about the functions of different parts of a plant. The flower for instance is where pollination, reproduction and the development of seeds takes place. The leaves are where photosynthesises occurs to produce food for the plant to grow. The stems transports nutrients and water throughout the plant and the roots draw nutrients and water from the soil. We also made bees and butterflies which are important pollinators and are key to helping plants reproduce. We look forward to learning more about plants and their pollinators this term, both in our science lessons and on our up-coming Green Day.
