Recently in science we have been exploring air resistance as part of our study of forces. We carried out an investigation where we asked the question: ‘What is the relationship between surface area and air resistance?’ We made paper helicopters – one with large wings and the other with small wings – then we dropped them both from the same height and at the same time to ensure we conducted a fair test. We discovered that the helicopter with larger wings took longer to hit the ground in comparison to the smaller winged helicopter. We concluded that the bigger the surface area of the helicopter, the greater the wind resistance would be.
