This week was very exciting as we got to host our own curriculum assembly, which was a snippet of the wonderful learning that has taken place in Year 1 so far this year. The children did an amazing job of saying their lines, describing their work and singing along to 3 songs.
In English, we have come to the end of our focus story ‘Meerkat Mail’. This week, Sunny the Meerkat came to visit SSAS. First, he started off the day helping Mr Hodgson open the school. Then he popped into the staff room for some well deserved coffee. Next, he crashed breakfast club and ‘borrowed’ some yummy toast. After that, he helped Ms Hackett send some very important emails. Finally, he snuck into Year 2 to check our what they’ve been learning in English. The children in Year 1 children were very excited to help Sunny write a postcard back home to his family.
This week in Art, we have been learning about shades. We learnt that colours change a lot quicker when we add black, in comparison to adding white to create a tint.
In PSHE, we discussed how to set goals and how working together with a friend can help us achieve those goals easier and quicker. We played an activity where we mirrored the actions of our partners, demonstrating what it is like to follow and lead others. We worked in those pairs to design a welly, which showed what goal they both wanted to achieve. The children had to communicate, work together and come to an agreement on what their shared goal was.
In Science, we spoke about the properties of different objects and materials. We had a selection of objects from around the classroom, which we had to use our sight and touch, in order to describe their properties. We had some great works, such as stretchy, flexible, rough, transparent, opaque etc..
