On Thursday, 15th February we celebrated Egyptian Day. We learnt about life in ancient Egypt by taking part in a number activities: making clay Canopic jars, bandaging peg doll mummies, making clay and leather amulets, carving soap, writing with charcoal ink on papyrus, creating mini tomb paintings and making clay and wax perfume cones.
In the afternoon, we had a Royal celebration. Children adopted many different roles: some were part of the Pharaoh’s entourage and were royalty, guards and hand maidens while others were actors, dancers and musicians. The children performed stories and dances they practised in groups
We had an amazing time and learnt lots about life in the past. The day would not have been possible if it hadn’t been for the team of parents and grandparents who came along to support us by teaching the children crafts and helping them rehearse their roles. A big thank you to everyone for the part they played in our wonderful history day!
