This week Year 6 have been thoroughly living our school value of “Unity”.
On Monday, we demonstrated our Lindy Hop dance skills to Reception. Some of the Reception children chose to join in with Year 6 and they all danced together! Year 6 then went across to the Early Years outdoor area and all the children enjoyed playing together.
Later in the week, as part of our Science Unit – Light, the children worked together in groups to observe how rainbows are formed. They experimented with sunlight outside and torchlight inside a darkened classroom. They tried out prisms, bottles and glasses; with and without water. We were very lucky that it was a sunny morning! Together, the children then wrote up their method and their observations. Finally, they asked themselves how the rainbows were formed.
Our last activity was to create a spinning colour wheel. Ask you child to demonstrate the wheel to you – does it work? What happens to the colours as the wheel spins?
It has been a wonderful week that brought together the children in their classes as well as reaching out to the other end of the school. All the staff agreed that watching the kindness and gentleness of our Year 6 children and the joy and engagement of the Reception children was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. We will be collaborating again on a joint project as it was so successful!
We hope that this Easter time brings you together with your loved ones. We wish all our Year 6 families a peaceful and restful Easter break.
