At the end of last term, Councillor White visited SSAS to look at road safety. Some of our School Council Members and Squabble Squashers took him to our Camp Road entrance and explained how difficult it is to cross the road safely. Many cars and buses use Camp Road, travelling at speed past our school and moving very close to the pavements even though there are speed bumps and school warning signs. We used to have our brilliant School Crossing Patrol, Mr Jackson, to keep us safe when we crossed the road.Since he retired, we have to take the longer, safer route along the Alban Way, or use the crossing further down the road. These are both safe ways of crossing, but can take a longer time when we are in a hurry.
Councillor White was very helpful. He told us that he is looking at lots of ways of making roads in the area safer, including a slower speed limit. He has also advertised our School Crossing Patrol vacancy again, and we are very hopeful that we will soon have a new School Crossing Patrol to keep us safe! We will keep you updated. Thank you to Councillor White for all of his support.
