This week the children in Year 3 held collective worship sessions in class. In 3B the act of worship was based on John 20:19 -31 where Jesus appears to doubting Thomas. In 3T the act of worship was based on Acts 2: 1-4 where the Holy Spirit comes to the disciples after the Ascension of Jesus.
In the Gospel , Thomas refused to believe until he saw Jesus in person. Jesus told him that those who do not see, but still believe, are blessed. This story is an important reminder for us to have faith and trust in God, even when times are uncertain.
At Pentecost, Christians remember how the Holy Spirit brought new energy and powers to the disciples of Jesus, giving them the capacity and faith to spread the Gospel throughout the world. Often the symbols of wind and fire are used to describe the transforming effect of the Holy Spirit on the disciples and the children in 3T used these symbols to write eyewitness accounts of what it must have been like for the disciples to experience this great power from God.
