Last week we were learning about Chinese New Year, also known as the Lunar New Year. The children explored lots of different activities from making Chinese lanterns, attempting some Chinese lettering, mixing some 5 spice into our play dough and mixing up some congee in our water tray. The story to accompany our learning was called Goldy Luck and the 3 Pandas. This is an adapted version of Goldilocks, then children compared the similarities and the differences between the 2 stories. We also had a very special guest speaker, Jaeden’s mum, who talked to the children about how the Lunar New Year is celebrated and she told the children the story of the Chinese zodiac. This is a story about an animal race, can the children tell you who won the race and how they managed to win despite being so small. The highlight was being able to dress up like a dragon and perform a dragon dance for everyone.
