Despite it being zero degrees, the sun shone for Reception’s first trip to the school Library this week. The children loved choosing a library book and they all carried them back to school, carefully. Nursery children will go to the Library next week, on Thursday. Please remember to have the library book in your children’s bookbag every Wednesday (for Reception) or Thursday (Nursery) for our weekly Library visit.
In Reception, we have also enjoyed our second week of learning, linked to The Little Red Hen. This has included writing an alternative ending to the traditional story as well as making some wonderful bread rolls; the smell in Reception was amazing!!!
In Maths we have realised that it’s easier to count if objects are in a line, or arranged in a frame. Counting a large group (as demonstrated with our class photographs) was very tricky. We have also been trying to recognise and read the written numerals. We linked this to reading and dialling the telephone numbers of characters from traditional stories. This activity was a real hit!
Our week in EYFS ended with Chinese New Year celebrations! In Nursery, the children were using knives and chopping boards to prepare vegetables for a Chinese stir fry. We have used chop sticks to practice our fine motor skills, painted Chinese script, made Chinese lanterns and dragons, as well as flying giant Chinese paper lanterns in our outdoor area!!! Thank you to all the families who donated Chinese cultural items; these have really benefitted the children’s understanding of the new year celebrations.
Wishing you all a happy weekend.
The EYFS team.
