Each morning in Reception, we begin our day with Busy Fingers! As soon as we arrive, we head to the special activity box and dive into hands-on tasks designed to strengthen our fine motor skills. These activities are not only fun but also help us prepare for writing and other important skills.
This week, we’ve been working on mark-making and making beautiful patterns. The children have been exploring different textures and shapes as they get creative with their designs. We’ve also been practicing our handwriting, with a special focus on forming letters neatly. This week was extra exciting because we started using our brand-new handwriting books!
To keep things varied, we also introduced a new activity using tweezers to place pom-poms into Numicon pieces. This task was great for improving our grip strength and hand-eye coordination, key skills needed for writing. The children were so engaged, and it’s wonderful to see them making progress while having fun!
Busy Fingers is such a fantastic way to start our day, helping us build the skills we need to become confident writers.
