Year 5 have had a successful first week back and are ready to tackle Autumn 2!
English
As part of our work on cinquain poetry, on Monday, the children worked in groups to first write noun phrases related to WWI, then turn some of these into figurative language. Afterwards, the children worked in 3s to create a group cinquain poem about WWI. In a subsequent lesson, the children analysed the poem In Flanders Field, and finally wrote their own cinquain poem based on the work we’d covered about WWI and cinquain poetry. The children have done well to write poignant poetry about a difficult topic.
Wednesday Mass
Year 5 were fortunate to be able to attend in person our school’s All Saints mass. They showed reverence and respect during the service, and impressed all adults by how sensibly they walked to and from the church.
PE
Over the coming weeks, the children will be testing their fitness levels! Today, the children completed 4 different circuits: continuous running, shuttle runs, squats and sit and stretch, and recorded their results. At the end of the half term, we will repeat the exercises and see if the children have improved their fitness levels!
Reminders
– Please continue to read with your child and sign their Reading Records.
– The weather is turning colder and wetter, so please ensure your child has a labelled coat/waterproof coat in school.
Have a lovely weekend! ⛅🌡
