The Secret of Black Rock
EYFS have loved exploring the whole school text, The Secret of Black Rock, by Joe Todd-Stanton. This is an excellent story for the children’s imagination and has a very important message about looking after our environment.
The Reception children firstly designed their own sea-creature and then thought about how their creature would move and whether it would be camouflaged or would it be brightly coloured. The children then wrote about/dictated their sea-creature description or wrote a story.
The Nursery children drew a picture of their interpretation of the story. They were inspired by the illustrations from the book and created their own unique colourful drawings! The children recalled key events in the story and some even expanded their ideas into alternative endings. Some nursery children love the story so much they extended it into their CIL, reenacting some of the parts of the story in the water tray with boats, sea creatures and the dog from the story.
This study has incorporated knowledge of the natural world, creativity – using different media, as well as drama and singing; concluding with excellent literacy skills, using their Phonic knowledge and imagination.
At The Seaside!
EYFS have been so excited about their new and final topic, At The Seaside.
Our Role Play areas have embraced the seaside theme, with sandpits and beach huts in one classroom, a Travel Agent and checking onto an aeroplane in another and finally, a full-size Pirate Ship, complete with a mast in another!
The EYFS team are busy organising our celebratory trip to the seaside, which will be, Wednesday 29th June. If your child attends Nursery, RC or RM they will be attending the trip on this day. The children are really looking forward to their visit and can’t wait to make lots of sandcastles at the beach!
Our First Visit To The Library!
This week Nursery and Reception visited the school library on the Upper Site for the first time. It was so exciting to walk across the Alban Way and explore the Library, in person. The children enjoyed looking at all the books with their friends. They then chose a book from the library and loved seeing the librarian scan the barcode in their books. Please enjoy the Library book together at home and please ensure that the Library book is in your child’s book bag on their library day, in order for them to chose a new book from the Library each week. We look forward to visiting again next week! In Reception, while one class chose their library books, the other class explored the Upper Site outdoor area. All of the children did some observational drawings of the different flowers they saw outdoors. Thank you to Mrs Keaty for making the children’s experience so exciting and enjoyable!.
