This week, we gathered together as a school with Father Michael and Father John to celebrate Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. It’s a special time in the Church when we prepare our hearts for Easter by remembering how Jesus sacrificed His life for us.
During the Ash Wednesday liturgies on the upper and lower sites, each child received a small cross of ashes on their forehead. This reminds us that we are all loved by God and that Lent is a time for us to think about how we can be better people—by praying more, being kind, and helping others.
The Pupil Chaplaincy Team led readings and prayers. They told us that Lent lasts for 40 days, and during this time, we try to grow closer to God. Many people choose to give up something or do something extra to show their love for God and others. It might be helping around the house, saying extra prayers, or giving to those in need. Every child had written a Lent promise, and these were all brought up to the priest by a representative from each class.
We encourage all our families to think about how you can celebrate Lent together and make it a special time of love, kindness, and reflection. Let’s support each other as we grow in our faith and get ready to celebrate the joy of Easter!
