There has been lots going on in music over the last 2 weeks across the school.
Last week, Year 6 listened to the finale from Stravinsky’s Firebird suite. Stravinsky’s piece is based on a Russian folk tale about a magical glowing bird that Prince Ivan is searching for. The firebird is imprisoned in a castle with a beautiful princess. Ivan rescues the bird and the princess – but then his own sister poisons him and the princess. Luckily the firebird flies to the fountain of youth and, using magic water, brings Prince Ivan and his beloved princess back to life by lifting the curse. The music is magical and sent their imagination flying. The children used the music as a starting point to create Art in response to the music. Here are some of their results and I think you’ll agree, there are some very talented children in our Year 6 classes.
The Key Stage One choir performed ‘Harvest Rock and Roll’ in the KS1 singing assembly at the beginning of this week. They were fantastic and all the children watching thoroughly enjoyed it.
Finally, the Year 5 children have been working on an accompaniment for Coldplay’s Viva La Vida using different percussion instruments and experimenting with a different structure for the song. It’s been very noisy, but lots of fun!
