In Year 2, the students have been engaged in various activities across different subjects this week and it’s been a busy start to Summer term with lots of learning.
Maths
In maths, year 2 have been learning about doubling and halving and using multiplication and division symbols in their work.
PSHE:
- In PSHE, the students completed their topic on healthy eating. They made a list of their favorite foods and worked as a team to sort different foods into the correct food groups.
Science:
- This week our young scientists have been busy exploring the wonderful world of plants. We have been growing beans to observe how a seed germinates- an incredibly fascinating process! The children have identified different seeds and matched them to the corresponding plants, learning all about plant life cycles in the process.
- But that’s not all- our curious minds also went on a scavenger hunt to explore the habitats of plants in our local area. We discovered a variety of beautiful plants, including daisies, daffodils, ivy, cherry, blossoms, dog roses and many more. It was a great experience connecting with nature and learning about the diverse flora around us.
RE Lessons:
- In their RE lessons, year 2 looked at good messages that they send and receive. They also learned about the good news when Jesus had risen. They even acted out when the angels told the women at the tomb that Jesus was not there and he had risen. The children then wrote some excellent diary entries documenting what happened.
- We also had a beautiful pupil led liturgy and worship thinking about God’s creation of the Oceans. The children decided on this focus as we have been learning about Oceans in our geography lessons and we have learned that we need to work together to protect the sea creatures.
